Project SafeGuard Services now available at Carl Sandburg College

    1.What is Project SafeGuard?

Project SafeGuard is a range of data protection services offered by Carl Sandburg College to educational and governmental agencies throughout the College district.

    2.What Services are offered?

Services range from offline backup of critical data to a full range of hosting, disaster recovery and business continuity services.

3.Why do I need these services?

Your important data could be at risk.  These risks could range from physical damage to your data center and servers because of flood, fire, tornado or other catastrophes to compromise of data by hackers and other unauthorized users.

4.Why is Carl Sandburg College offering this service?

After building EduNet, a robust wireless infrastructure tying all our district locations and K-12 schools together into one network, Project Safeguard services were a logical extension that could be provided through the network. Moreover the College has a state of the art data center and a team of professional staff who have the expertise to manage the facility and the services housed within it.

5.What is the cost for the services?

Costs range from 13 cents/student/month for once/day offline data backup of up to 500GB of data to 19 cents/student/month for hosting/disaster recovery and business continuity of one application.

6.What applications are currently hosted in the Data Center?

Currently the Data Center hosts Skyward student management software for two school districts. Schools that prefer to buy and implement Skyward through the College enjoy significant discounts than if they were to do it themselves through a negotiated consortium purchase and the sharing of implementation and training services.

7.How can we be sure that Carl Sandburg College will ensure the protection of our data?

The College houses and protects its own data in the data center. An external security audit performed last year confirmed that the College has the necessary tools in place to prevent security breaches and vulnerabilities.

8.What technology does Carl Sandburg College use for data management services?

The college uses state of the art data management technologies, which include server virtualization, redundant backup using hard drives and tape backup units and dynamic resource allocation.

9.What kind of uptime can one expect?

The data center uses an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) Unit backed by a generator to ensure 24/7/365 availability of the data center for its customers.

10.How do we go about signing up for the service?

Your school district Board of Education needs to sign an Intergovernmental Agreement with Carl Sandburg College on the level of service you would like to participate in and committing to a five year term.
